This is a big win. Kristi Noem was a disaster, and people speaking up got her fired.
But Kristi Noem is not the architect of Trump's dangerous mass deportation policies, and we can't let up the pressure.
Fire Stephen Miller.
Good news that the execrable Kristi Noem has been fired, but Trump should really be firing Stephen Miller, the primary engineer of the vile ethnic reengineering agenda and murderously violent civic tensions that are sucking all of them into a bottomless political sinkhole, Trump included.

All of the horrors came from the top. We need cuts and reforms to CBP and ICE. Nothing less should suffice.

Booker also brought up the prison warehouses ICE is buying up, which haven't gotten nearly enough attention. One in NJ cost $129m but was assessed for half of that and was opposed by local Republican-elected officials.
As a reminder, this is money ICE got because Congress cut Medicaid
@booker.senate.gov calls out ICE for raiding schools and bus stops. Noem tries to deny that they conduct immigration enforcement there but he has receipts.

Ha boy, Tillis gets into how Noem's proud story about killing her dog and goat illustrate how she can't admit to making mistakes but is in fact deeply inexperienced in all she attempts.
He finishes by saying she's been blocking oversight investigations and needs to resign
Tillis TEARS INTO Noem. He doesn't ask her a question but instead, truly pissed off, goes into the disaster of ICE's indiscriminate enforcement and culture of Miller's rhetoric.
There are very much both Democrats and Republicans who are pretty pissed about Noem's leadership.
Senator Hirono calls out instances of violence and then directly ties it into the lies and permissive lawless from DHS and WH leadership
03.03.2026 17:39 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0@hirono.senate.gov also raised our lawsuit about Guatemalan children who are supposed to be protected from deportation and how DHS lied about why they were doing it. Noem refuses to admit they lied, again, blaming "activist judges" for their failures
03.03.2026 17:24 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Blumenthal also raises the Lyon memo, that allows ICE raids without judicial warrants. She defends their use of administrative warrants.

@blumenthal.senate.gov says DHS admitted to him that they have arrested and detained dozens of U.S. citizens. Three of them are in the hearing room.
Noem refuses to say that ICE arresting citizens, targeting someone because they look "Mexican," or shooting people in their cars is wrong.
Also responding to @coons.senate.gov, Noem refuses to rule out ICE at election polling places, though she claims there are no plans for it (blaming immigrants for voting for if they did)
03.03.2026 16:03 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Noem claims, despite Steven Miller publicly saying so, that ICE doesn't have quotas. Though noting her interesting phrasing that "Dept of Homeland Security" doesn't. Guess the White House does
03.03.2026 15:58 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Oh my god. Not only did Noem refuse to apologize to Alex Pretti's parents for calling him a domestic terrorist, she plays semantics saying, no, she never did that, she said it was an "incident of domestic terrorism."
03.03.2026 15:50 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Noem refuses to admit anything was wrong when ChongLY Thao's door was rammed in by ICE and he was dragged, in his underwear, into subzero temperatures. She says they needed to "identify" him. Abhorrent.

Responding to @klobuchar.senate.gov Noem affirms there are still 600+ agents in MN. The so-called drawdown, of course, is not reality, and she continues to falsely blame "fraud" for their presence.
Of course, fraud is perpetuated by government contractors, not immigrants.
Also very interesting, Kennedy is unhappy that Noem blamed the "domestic terrorism" comments around the MN killings on Steven Miller. And she tries to blame "annonymous sources" and gets corrected, she said it on the record.
This Secretary seems to be not very popular right now
Very interesting, Noem comes under criticism from Sen. Kennedy (R-LA) about $220m of taxpayer dollars spent on DHS TV ads that feature Noem. And it was apparently some people with ties to her who got the contract (she blamed "subcontractors" for that).
Kennedy doubts Trump would approve
@whitehouse.senate.gov Has to cut off Noem from justifying her luxury aircraft to ask why she blocked civil rights investigations into the MN shootings and deported people . She claims ignorance. She seems to know shockingly little about the agency she heads.
03.03.2026 15:41 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0When asked about DACA and deporting people, with families, who should be protected from deportation, she claims they're "following the law." Of course, they aren't if they are deporting people the government has promised are protected.
03.03.2026 15:02 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Durbin points out that a Republican judge said DHS has violated 200+ court orders. DHS admitted to doing so 50 times in NJ. Noem lies and says they say they follow court orders and has nothing to say in response to the judge. She has a very strange addendum about "applicable to federal agencies"
03.03.2026 14:59 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Durbin calls DHS out for calling the citizens they have shot and murdered as "domestic terrorists" and gives Noem the chance to retract her statements calling them such. She doesn't, passing the blame to "reports on the ground."

Noem starting her testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee this morning. Tomorrow, she'll do the House. Will we see some actual oversight or just lies?

For the record, immigration advocates were shouting from the rooftops about how terrible it would be to indefinitely lockup someone who shoplifts formula for their baby, as this law requires.
I hope our policymakers listen next time.
Would be a good move for Ossoff, Warnock and a bunch of others.
