A minimalist Japanese ink painting of a frog by Matsumoto Hoji, dated 1814. The frog's head and front limbs are depicted with bold, simple brushstrokes, conveying a sense of curiosity and liveliness. The artwork has a seal in red ink on the top left, adding a traditional touch.

🐸 Today’s haiku:

By the scraper's edge –
a frog, pebble-perfect, still,
watching shadows pass.

Inspired by a tiny frog near my front door’s shoe scraper, perfectly camouflaged like a smooth pebble.

The Founders put β€˜advice and consent’ in the Constitution for a reason. They wanted Senators to have oversight over Cabinet picks of a President to ensure that they were properly vetted. Winning an election 49.89%-48.24 doesn’t dispense with that constitutional responsibility.

Walking to work | Blog post | Mary Beard I guess it will come as no surprise that I am not a hugely enthusiastic walker. I don’t mind doing it for a purpose (that is, to get somewhere), but doing

I am not a great walker in Cambridge..but here in Washington DC I have a wonderful (but also uncomfortably revealing) walk to work -- past some of THE monuments of the capitol. tinyurl.com/yc85nc9f

I just heard the best and funniest description of the foul pestilence that is Katie Hopkins. The always excellent Rachel Parris named her 'the poor man's Medusa'

Just thought I'd share that with you 😘

Unlike last week, tomorrow a simple majority in the House could pass the β€œnonprofit killer” bill, placing all NGOs that campaign for human rights in jeopardy. We need each of our US followers to contact their congressperson and tell them VOTE β€œNO” ON HR 9495!
