Tariffs aren't a good thing, but they cause people to be wary of the market, not to overinvest. It's more likely that AI will be the cause of another market collapse when companies have to acknowledge that it really isn't doing what they advertise it will do and investment ceases.

Most depressions happen because of bubble scenarios where people have too much faith in the stock market. The Panic of 1873 (the first "Great Depression") was caused by rampant speculation. So was the what we've come to know as The Great Depression and the dot-com bubble of 2008.

Tariffs are economically terrible, but the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930 had nothing to do with the Great Depression of 1929 (for reasons which should be readily apparent) and the Abominations Tariff had nothing to do with the Panic of 1837. We don't need to make up reasons why they're bad.
