Growing up in rural Texas, President Johnson saw firsthand the struggles caused by limited access to doctors and hospitals.

He believed health care was a right, not a privilege.

Honored to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Medicare & Medicaid Act, signed into law on this day in 1965.

Joined by Sen. Molly Cook and veteran Shaun Salvaje, I unveiled my bills to create a regulatory framework for the safe, responsible manufacture, marketing, sale, and consumption of naturally-derived THC in Texas.

These reforms replace a fragmented system with clarity and consistency in the law.

Regulating the market keeps Texans safer by: setting standards for production, marketing, and sale; funding law enforcement to test, track, and prosecute bad actors; and freeing up officers to focus on high-level crime instead of low-level cannabis cases. (5/6)

My SB 54 bill ends low-level arrests and supports law enforcement combating high-level crime.

It decriminalizes small amounts, allows limited home cultivation, creates a regulated market, sets a 21+ age minimum, clears low-level convictions, and funds community oversight. (4/6)

Without consistent statewide rules, there are no safety standards, no age limits, no clear oversight — putting consumers and kids at risk.

My SB 53 bill sets clear, enforceable rules: testing, 5 mg per serving cap, 21+ age limit, business licenses, and an oversight fund. (3/6)

Hemp-derived products have no uniform testing, labeling, or age restrictions, yet are easily accessible to minors in dangerous quantities and potency.

Despite generating $250M+ annually, hemp-derived THC remains largely unregulated, with no safety standards or safeguards. (2/6)

Lone Star Standard: Sen. Johnson has filed Senate Joint Resolution 1 (SJR 1), which aims to prohibit mid-decennial redistricting in Texas.

SJR 1 would limit redistricting to once per decade following the U.S. Census unless mandated otherwise by a court.

Texas Democrats vow to use delay tactics to drag out GOP redistricting effort With few options to prevent the Republican majority from passing a new congressional map, Democrats threatened to filibuster, delay hearings and even break quorum.

@texastribune.org: “We’ll do whatever we can as the minority to stop it, but if we can’t, if reality deprives us of that option, the story is what THEY’RE doing,” Sen. Johnson said.

“We will fight like hell to stop this, but we’re not the ones who are doing it.”

Day one of special session reveals rift over priorities Democrats say they’re keeping everything on the table, from filibusters to quorum breaks, to interfere with a mid-decade redistricting effort.

WFAA News: Within hours of the session’s start, the Senate debated a resolution to create rules for the redistricting process.

“This is appalling. It’s embarrassing,” said Sen. Johnson. “We should just tell Washington, D.C., no—we have more important things to do.”
