oh right going back to this, what I meant to point out is that the appeal of a lot of conflict, including arguments, is that it gives us an excuse to be cruel; it's fun to be mean and dunk on people and "hypocrisy" has no defenders regardless of ideology so you can dunk away

the answer here is of course not to switch from "hypocrites are bad" to "people calling out hypocrites are bad" in an attempt to define new good faith discourse norms, but to really try to stop caring about discourse in general. which is hard. obviously for me lmao
