When we talk about Baby Boomers not getting off the stage: In 1997, the US president was born in 1946.

In 2007, the US president was born in 1946.

In 2017, the US president was born in 1946.

And next year in 2027? The US president will have been born in 1946.

and there just no middle ground on any of these things. why do i have to give tax cuts to billionaires just because a large portion of the country is dumb enough to believe its stimulative? we all know its bull shit, im sick of wasting our goddam time arguing about settled truths

trickle down economics is bull shit and if you believe it then you are stupid. great replacement is bull shit and if you believe it then you are racist. vaccines are safe and effective and if you believe otherwise you should be shunned from society

If anyone is friends with any Georgian air traffic controllers, buy them a nice bottle of wine. As guardians of pretty much the only narrow gap still available between Europe and Asia that avoids both Iran, the Gulf, Ukraine and Russia, they are under some substantial pressure.

A reminder: Matt Goodwin lost heavily in spite of an almost total lack of tactical voting, not because of it.

The combined Green/Labour vote was 66%, versus 28.7% for Reform.

If Labour and the Greens split the vote 50/50 – a total coordination fail – he'd have finished third, not second.

It cannot be otherwise. Unless academia is to exponentially grow forever, or wither away to nothing, the long term R number for academics must be one. Each tenured professor must produce on average one student who enters academia, to be their successor. What do they do with the rest of their time?

Hiring established scholars to junior Oxbridge roles imperils disciplines As lay-offs continue elsewhere, postdocs’ inability to land permanent roles will block the pipeline of future faculty, Cambridge academics argue

Real issue isn’t hiring β€œtoo senior” or "established" candidates

Academia produces far more PhDs than permanent jobs

Restricting the competition won’t solve that

It only replaces excellence with forms of protectionism

... if you use the numbers on the number pad.

Using the numbers on the main keyboard does nothing, while holding Alt and pressing F2, F4, F1 does not do what you want.

UK launches operation to support thousands of Britons in Middle East Officials are understood to be working on plans to evacuate British nationals, should airspace remain closed.

What's happening in Dubai bolsters the argument taxes should be based on people's nationality, not just their country of residence (ie the US model).

If Brits living abroad can expect to be airlifted out by virtue of being British, they should pay some tax towards that.

I suppose it's impressive that Starmer managed to maintain the correct moral and political position for all of ten minutes. Some kind of record.

Kind of incredible. I was just sitting down to write about how Starmer should be given credit for keeping us out of this mess when he does this. Unutterably foolish and obsequious. Why in God's name should we have anything to do with this shortsighted madness.

Gather 'round Bluesky, while I tell the hoary tale of epidemic vs. endemic.

How can it be that pandemic interventions that were vitally important in 2020 are marginally effective in 2025?

Science will give us the answers!

I don't know if this is weird of me. But I have an easier time getting things done even when I don't want to when I feel like not doing them would negatively impact someone else than when I feel like not doing them would negatively impact only me.

Once again I implore Nigel Farage to consider what he's said to the Mail on Sunday. Then to find a physical copy of it, with all the supplements, then to roll it up very very tightly and push it completely up his racist arse.

On social issues specifically, Labour have shifted so far to the right that they could "move to the left" by adopting Theresa May's positions on immigration and trans rights, which is an absolutely unreal thing to be able to say of the architect of the Hostile Environment, and yet

Am pleased they admit he was involved. But you can't cure bias after the fact and our lawyers will be writing to the MHRA about its ascientific 'concerns' about the trials.
