Outdoors, some children are loving the mud kitchen/water area. I provided some fun and messy resources to make some “potions”, the children also gathered some natural resources. They turned out amazing! What a fun and messy way to promote creativity, fine and gross motor and problem solving🧪💧✨🍁

Our tuff tray has been changed to nursery rhymes this week! The children have been very engaged with singing and rhyming throughout all nursery areas, to help support the children’s phonological awareness I put out all different rhyming provocations.🎶

We had another trip to the woods today. We stayed a bit longer and built the toilet tent, made a shelter and had some snack at camp!🏕️🪾🍊

Shapes and patterns have taken over the craft area! Using children’s current interest I created some different activities for the children to take part in that encouraged fine motor, mathematical language, shape, size and measure📏⭐️

Yesterday the children helped to make Swiss roll for our pudding at lunch time today.
We had to measure, weigh, pour and mix, exploring our mathematical skills, early language and fine motor motor skills. 🍥

To allow children to become more familiar with different types of text/print, we added more recipe books, lists, menus and receipts at mealtimes area. A few children particularly have shown a deep interest in this and have therefore progressed to created their own recipe and shopping list/receipts.

The boys and girls at craft were very busy making their playdough bonfires. We had lots of discussions around fire safety and what to do to keep us safe. This was also a fun activity to practice fine motor, language, co-ordination and colour. How amazing!🔥🎆

Today at craft I provided some multicoloured paper and glitter for some finger mark making. The children were encouraged to use their finger to create their own firework shapes. This helps develop fine motor skills, imagination and colour recognition as well as having fun getting messy with glitter✨

In preparation for bonfire night most of the boys and girls were very busy creating their own glitter fireworks. They were developing their fine motor skills by spreading the glue and picking up the glitter in a pincer grip. What beautiful masterpieces they have created!🎆🤩

At craft this week we are strengthening our fine motor skills through mark making, scissor control and threading. We are developing our pincer grip by using tweezers/tongs and exploring small objects such as google eyes and cotton buds.

We used some natural materials brought in by someone from their garden. We intentionally set out a few pattern examples and role modelled mathematical language relating to patterns, also discussing texture and size of our materials. Here are a few examples that children made. #MathsWeekScotland

Today in the garden we provided some empty bottles and asked the children if they would like to chose their own natural resources to make some music shakers. They searched the garden and finally decided on some stones, twigs, rice and pasta to create different sounds.

The children requested paint in the garden. As the children were so engaged in using natural materials, we combined them both and provided a fun experience for the children to enjoy by leaf printing! Look at what they created 🍁🎨🖌️

Due to the children showing an ongoing interest in art, we gathered our own natural materials out in the garden to create some transient art. We had discussions about colour of leaves with seasonal changes, comparing shapes of stones and berries and exploring counting of our materials.
