Nobody has the formula for successful AI integration. But I can guarantee a bad formula is AI-proof and sticking our head in the sand.

I’m messing around with the nexus of teaching mastery learning, AI, and entrepreneurship. Don’t know what I’m figuring out, but happy to share the journey! Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/doanwinkel/

11.12.2024 12:46 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Most importantly:
I’m 100% transparent with students about what I’m doing, why I’m doing it and what I hope it accomplishes.
Im asking students to be transparent about how they use AI, their concerns, their questions, their curiosities.
I’m asking students for feedback every step of the way.
Here are some basic things I’m playing around with:
Debates with AI.
CustomGPTs for every skill.
Grading the chats (thanks Mike Kentz!)
An infinity loop of student-AI-peer-AI-student co-creation and revision.
We can’t move to AI-proof assignments.
That does our students a disservice.
We need to prepare them for work.
Students benefit most if we find “a new style of schoolwork better suited to the world of artificial intelligence."
This is really hard work.
It requires we rethink how we “teach.”
I love putting student voice front and center.
Yes they are using AI.
No, we have no clue to what extent.
Because we are not being transparent.
This is a great read (link in comments), but I have one bone to pick with Owen.

It has taken higher ed two full years to grasp that LLMs are not about academic integrity but rather a challenge to fundamental structure of todays colleges and universities.

Mentoring students is by far the most imapctdul and enjoyable part of my job.
Mentor or meander would be amazing way to evaluate faculty - definitely time to update publish or perish (of even better yet to get rid of tenure altogether!)

Day 2
What if we could rebuild “education”?
What would the foundation be?
Empathy.
Storytelling.
That’s it.
From those come everything good.
Through those we end everything bad.
And with those we figure out the difference.

01.12.2024 17:33 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I do find that when my students get first drafts of ideas using AI, their progress and process is quicker to get to a “better” solution. I know contexts are different (I see the problem with first drafts of writinf)

They wait to be told what, when, how and by whom.
The lucky ones are told why (but that’s limited).
And the flip side is many have false confidence because they don’t receive constructive and developmental feedback.
Students struggle with confidence.
It is an epidemic far beyond AI.
I’ve seen a consistent decline in my students over 15 years.
Not sure why, but a large part of it is that before they get to me they are trained to wait.

Good teachers don't deliver content.
They empower students to grow.
They inspire curiosity.
They foster resilience.
🚨 Remember:
A disengaged student needs your encouragement to reignite
What’s your go-to strategy for keeping students engaged?
Let’s share ideas below! 👇

Students should start messy.
Not perfect.
As entrepreneurship teachers,
We see students wait to begin
Unless their idea feels "perfect"
But perfection stifles progress.
How do you encourage your students to experiment boldly?
I'd love to hear your thoughts 👇

A moment of kindness
Can change a student's life.
Empathize with their situation
(Remembering when you were a student?)
