birthday week had a great run for movies this week fr

and was surprisingly progressive to see the film shot in a way that showed the desire of the female for nariko to have this attraction to a man ten years younger than her and for him to be as mutually attracted to her as well!!!

there was a sensitivity here, an innocence he brought to this role that I think he channeled rather well here especially in his mannerisms or his expressions that played to the character also being inexperienced in comparison to the older woman he had formed feelings for

some of the dudebros hate him in roles like this but if I have found anything is that I love these roles for mifune so much he doesn’t have many of them but it showed his range that he could play more reserved, subdued, and charming characters

i do wonder because watching it reminded me so much in instances of in the mood for love if wong kar wai had seen this but this really was an unexpected find and going into it last night really just what a way to spend the eve of my birthday

last night I watched the wedding ring which is a 96 minute movie but took me 3 hours to finish because mifune was a stone cold babe and crying over the milf in the movie he couldn’t have this is peak cinema

never thought i would enjoy samurai movies as much as i am but the more i think about it the more i go i too would love to fuck off for years and learn the way of the blade and gain wisdom about humanity

golden hour in dusk or dawn is always my favorite time of day to photograph anything because of the warmth you get from the sun the array of colors you can get in sky in either time you get such stunning results!!

i think it’s incredible the silhouette work the way the tones in color matched the fighter!! the silhouettes created choosing to film your actor with the light behind them and using the silhouette to create drama and tension!!! you can feel the movement even in still frames

i am gonna be thinking about filming a duel scene during a sunrise for quite some time like this alone brought my rating up on this movie

would have been just as well done in showing that what he has been learning on this journey of discovery to become a true warrior was more than just strength but having a strong level of virtue and wisdom attained of humanity overall

is sort of glossed over rather quickly and the flashback editing in the movie was a choice but akjsndad i get it i do think even if they didn't include it and maybe if the director made a choice to just show mushashi contemplating defeating the man he was dueling before showing mercy

when you are on month 8 of unemployment you realize you have more time to expend on this but hopefully someone hires me for a job soon in the mean time i will keep watching movies and writing

i know it has been a million weeks long for others but i like feeling like i have had the time to sit with and dissect the my own thoughts of the movies i have been watching this month

i am talking to talk maybe i will revive my substack to talk about mifune or kurosawa as a whole because i have had so many thoughts watching movies they worked on together and also other movies mifune worked on as an actor in general with others january has been fun for me personally

or even the choice not to show it is just as impactful when washizu returns from murdering the ruling king we are not shown the death but his bloodied hands, he is paralyzed by his fear and shock of what he has done and to me read much more tragic then if we had been shown him going through with it

it was something worth noting that i enjoy an action film or fighting in movies i think how kurosawa shows violence in his films that feature it heavily in the story is interesting because we do not need to be overloaded with the violent imagery to understand the toll it takes sometimes the one shot

or like when the king in the end of throne of blood is caught in an onslaught of arrows being fired at him but it is the arrow through the throat that you see the blood the thing that takes him out which makes his death all the more impactful

i did read in particular for sanjuro and yojimbo kurosawa was also more intentional of only using a blood bursting bag to signify the ending of the story which you see when yojimbo/sanjuro deliver these big final moves to the main antagonists in the movie which i thought was
