Waiting for the big day!
April 9th, 1912 - Final preparations are still underway in Southampton for Titanic’s maiden voyage.
Fixtures are still being installed, walls are still be painted, and furniture and provisions are still being brought on board.

Titanic’s forward anchor crane/derrick was used to deploy her auxiliary anchor. It was held in place to point aft, but on the wreck it points forward. Some have speculated how it managed to spin around 180 degrees, but we will never know for sure. It continues to be one of many enduring mysteries.

Titanic’s masthead lamp, as seen on the wreck during an expedition in 1987. The lamp has since been recovered and can be seen on display with other artifacts.
