Gaslighting is a weapon of control in Pathological Partner Abuse (PPA)—a deliberate strategy used to distort reality, dismantle self-trust, and trap victims in an unending cycle of doubt and confusion. Unlike overt forms of abuse, gaslighting is subtle, insidious, and designed to make victims question their own perceptions, memories, and sanity. It’s not just about lies but about rewriting reality in a way that makes the abuser's version of events seem unquestionable. The impact on victims is profound and devastating. Gaslighting erodes self-esteem, fractures identity, and instills a paralyzing uncertainty that leaves victims unable to trust their own minds. This psychological warfare leads to a state of hypervigilance and self-doubt, where every thought and emotion is second-guessed. Over time, victims can become dependent on the abuser for a distorted sense of reality, making it nearly impossible to discern the truth. This form of abuse is particularly effective because it exploits the victim's empathy, trust, and need for connection—turning these strengths into vulnerabilities.
