Gestern fand der Fakultätstag der Umweltwissenschaften*innen 2024 auf dem Tharandter Campus stat. Caterina Barrasso hielt eine großartige, einminütige Präsentation über ihr Scads.AI-Projekt und wir lernten andere Umweltwissenschaftler kennen.

Neuer Montag, neue Exkursion: Revitalisierung eines Hochmoors im Erzgebirge, Sachsen, mit den Master-Studenten. Input gabs vom Sachsenforst & einem hydrologischen Ingenieurbüro, um nicht nur mögliche Arbeitsmöglichkeiten für Geograph*innen aufzuzeigen, sondern auch, wie biodivers Torfmoore sind!

2. Exkursion zum Thema “Stadtbäume”: Auf dem TU-Campus kartierten wir Bäume, bewerteten ihre Vitalität, untersuchten aktuelle a-/biotische Stressoren, diskutierten Zukunftsszenarien. Highlight: Beobachtung der Esskastanie & ihres Schädlings, der Japanischen Esskastanien-Gallwespe (siehe Foto).

2nd field trip was on urban trees. We analysed current a-/biotic stress factors for urban trees & discussed future scenarios while mapping trees @ the main campus & assessing their vitality & future prospects. Our highlight: Observing a chestnut & its pest, the Japanese chestnut gall wasp (see pic).

Einblick in die gestrige Exkursion im Seminar "Biogeographie"! Im forstbotanischen Garten in Tharandt (Sachsen, Dtl.) haben sich insgesamt 26 Studierende dem Thema Gehölze und ihre Anpassungsstrategien an verschiedene Umweltbedingungen gewidmet. Heute geht es nach Moritzburg ins Wildgehege.

Insight into yesterday's excursion in the seminar Biogeography! In the forest botany garden in Tharandt, 26 students focussed on the topic of woody plants & their adaptation strategies to different environmental conditions. Today, they are travelling to Moritzburg to the game reserve.
