when i shoot an elite in halo and he goes wort wort, he is responding to stimuli. he goes from a passive state to being affronted and angered. when he dies, those close to him run and cry in fear. it is therefore evident that he is conscious.

it is really cool to route out a map to get everyone's contracts done in time, to navigate an escalating UESC presence and pick at the puzzle box design of each location. It's Helldivers, but more *dense*.

And then another team shows up, and at best you get a kinda mediocre apex fight.

I am admittedly having a better time with the game at launch than all my grumbling here would suggest, but I cannot really overstate the degree to which the presence of other players is frequently a dead stop to whatever interesting emergent situation might have been unfolding.
