Last week there was a heat wave that was made more humid by corn sweat. The sweat of my own body reminded me of the corn field across from my grandmother's house, the talk stalks rustling in the ever present wind.

I sometimes look back at old work and realize that the vision for my photography has been there the whole time, I’m just so much more present to it now.

I asked my tarot deck “what do I need most right now?” and my deck (which has a sense of humor) responded “a magician.”

Studio Reflection - April 2025
Drawn to the darkness in light and finding new ways to breathe through photography.
Somehow, it is the end of April. Spring always brings me back to life, and this year I have felt so much unfolding energy.

Working in the garden is always full of surprises, like this not so little northern red salamander I stumbled across in the dirt pile. I carefully replaced the clump of soil I unearthed him under and left the pile alone for another day.

This month’s studio reflection-a little shorter than usual, but I’ll be back at writing in a couple weeks!

The Haircut Series
A (still untitled) series on interdependence, trust, and gender identity.
I love writing about the personal context behind work. This week’s substack looks at an unfolding project of mine and where it is headed.

a nonbinary white person lays in bed, their bare shoulder to the camera and a hand reaching to their shoulder.
Much of my work this year has been tender, slowly coaxing myself through my days. I am exhausted, my body demanding more rest than obligation allows for. It has been rewarding making images outside of a project lately, just letting my practice sink deeply into an intuitive space.

I've been looking through old work lately, and found this favorite from a project that has been sitting on the back burner for a few years. From my brother and I replacing the CV axle on my car back in 2020.
