Germany, France, and Britain should have summarized their response to Washington in three points:

The "peace" charade is not worth spending time on. It will all fall apart very soon. Russia has no interest in peace. The Russian regime needs war to motivate its own existence. What is clear, as it has been since the break-up of the USSR, is that The West is impotent in dealing with Russia.

The Russian "opposition" needs Putin to motivate its own existence. When Putin falls it will become clear to everybody how irrelevant the "opposition" is to Russians in general. The "opposition" will never get a say about what really happens in Russia.

To put this more bluntly, Europe has largely outsourced its foreign policy to America since WWII. This has created the illusion within the EU that foreign policy remains a national “competency.” It’s not. So if Europe wants a bigger voice it needs to speak as Europe.

Of course not. Because TACO.
For the 1000th time, how to deal with Trump: Show strength. Shape events. Make him react to your move rather than jumping like a scared rabbit whenever he says something nuts.
Europe’s consistent failure to do so only encourages more American madness.

Everybody always forget that Putin needs war to survive. The "peace" plan is nothing more than yet another sham ploy to gain momentum on the ground by stalling help to Ukraine, and to divide Ukraine's allies.

Unclear where this war profiteering plan came from or why it emerged right now, but clear that it is in every way disastrous

One of the biggest hypocrisies related to the Russo-Ukrainian war is when western leaders keep repeating that borders should never be allowed to be changed by force while almost in the same sentence pushing Ukraine to accept new borders. Very few states are free from guilt here.

We need to stop calling it a ‘peace plan,’ even with sarcastic quotes around it. Call it the US-Kremlin plan or similar.
‘US-Kremlin plan’ shames the US and makes it sound deeply unappealing to the broader US and European publics.

The proposed ‘peace plan’ is essentially a Kremlin wish list with amateurishly formulated attempts at Trumpian grift sprinkled on top.

The incompetence of the ‘peace plan’ — vaguely phrased, unenforceable, self-contradictory — is a feature, not a bug.
It’s designed to be rejected so Moscow & US isolationists can say: ‘We offered peace; Europe refused.’
Europe must see the trap & step up now. Arm Ukraine to win.
