โ Now is the time to invest - in British food, British farms, and British farmers.
๐ฏ The Chancellor must listen to the Lib Dems' calls to properly fund the new Environmental Land Management Schemes to ensure farmers can produce food sustainably and profitably.

๐ Today's #budget needs to make things right with British farmers.
This government has hit farmers hard, significantly and repeatedly:
๐ฐ First they implemented the Family Farm Tax,
๐ Then they cut the farming budget by ยฃ100mn,
โป๏ธ And then they closed the Sustainable Farming Incentive.
Both are tragedies. But they are not treated equally.
Violence against women and girls is a public health crisis, and it's time we start treating it like one.

A woman is killed by a partner or ex-partner once every 3 days in the UK.
This far exceeds the number of people killed by terrorism in the UK over the past 20 years. In fact, more women are killed by a partner or ex-partner each year than the number of people killed in the 7 July bombing in 2005.

24.11.2025 15:28 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0๐ Hi North East Hampshire,
Here are a few of the things I've been doing this week.
We've come a long way in politics when it comes to equal representation, and this is worth celebrating.
But we're not quite there yet.
Therefore, today, on #AskHerToStand Day, I'm putting out a call: if you know any women who could do some good in politics, please encourage them to get involved.
๐ฏ The Conservatives left our public finances in a dire state, but working people need some relief, and our economy needs to get going.

These policies would be a big boost to working people, and a vital lifeline for local businesses.

๐ By cutting VAT on hospitality by just 5%, we would inject ยฃ12bn back into the industry.
๐ท Meanwhile, by removing the renewable levy on energy bills, we would save households ยฃ270 each year.
๐ฐ And, with a windfall tax on big banks, we could raise ยฃ30bn to cover twice the cost of these policies.

๐บ Last week, I enjoyed a rare chance to visit the pub with some colleagues. However, with the price of a pint up more than ยฃ1 (28%) in the last 5 years, we know many have been priced out of treats like this.
๐๏ธ That's why the Lib Dems' focus for this budget is on supporting our hospitality sector:
Today is World Pancreatic Cancer Day.
This is a devastating disease. With very few symptoms, it hides away until it's too late. 5-year survival rates are very low.
We need to be doing more.

โกHigh energy prices are a major issue, not just for residents trying to heat their homes, but also for small businesses which cannot reduce their energy consumption when prices go up.
โBecause of this, I asked the Minister for Energy what plans he has to support small businesses with these costs.
Thank you. Weโre trying to!

With recent bank closures affecting many, I'm glad that this new branch will ensure that the option of an in-person banking service remains available to those who need it.
โบ๏ธ It was a pleasure to meet, and speak with, the bank's staff, and learn more about how they'll help support our community.
๐ฆ It was a real pleasure to open the new Nationwide branch on Fleet high street, which will soon be the only physical bank left in the constituency.
๐ท Although banking is increasingly done online, a physical teller can often still be a huge help.
๐ฎ We need to invest in proper community policing in rural areas; rural crime cost the UK ยฃ52.8m in 2023, yet just 0.4% of officers are assigned to rural crime.
๐ This issue has been neglected for too long. I will continue to call on the Government to give rural communities the attention they need.

I'm glad to see that the Government has decided to scrap the role of Police and Crime Commissioner - the Lib Dems have been calling for this for years.
๐ฐ They cost tens of millions of pounds, money that could otherwise be used to fund more frontline officers.
๐ฐ To fund this, we're calling for a windfall tax on big banks, which would raise twice as much as the policies would cost.
๐บ This two-pronged approach would revitalise our high streets, give hard-working people a much-needed boost, and save the 'Friday night treat', a much-loved British tradition.
A graphic highlighting the Lib Dems' call for a reduction in high street and hospitality VAT.
๐ข The Lib Dems are calling for a 5% VAT cut for hospitality venues and for the removal of the renewable levy from people's energy bills.
๐ This would inject ยฃ12bn back into high street businesses and put ยฃ270 back into people's pockets for them to spend on occasional extras.
