FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 13, 2025 Contact: Long Beach Democratic Club 📧 thelbdemclub@gmail.com Long Beach Democratic Club condemns the aggressive detainment of Senator Alex Padilla and other Trump Administration actions ahead of No Kings Rally LONG BEACH, CA — We are appalled by the Department of Homeland Security’s detention of California Senator Alex Padilla yesterday. As the Senator noted, if this is what the Trump Administration does to a United States Senator, imagine what they can do to any American that speaks up, or the families subject to the ongoing ICE raids. This is not the first time Trump has abused elected officials for questioning him. The Administration is prosecuting Congresswoman LaMonica McIver (NJ-10) on what many legal experts agree are politically motivated charges. Trump’s “border czar” Tom Homan has threatened both Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass with arrest in response to their criticisms of the Trump Administration. Trump has even turned the power of the United States government against local elected officials and judges.

One thing is clear: Trump will use his power to go after anyone who opposes him. Already, Trump is using the United States Marines to detain American citizens, in clear violation of the Posse Comitatus Act. It is vital everyone speaks up and holds Trump accountable now. We urge everyone to peacefully protest and demand that Trump be held accountable for his authoritarian, illegal actions. Saturday, June 14th, we will be hosting a “No Kings” Rally along with our sibling Long Beach Democratic Clubs from 9-11 AM at Bixby Park Annex. We also urge all elected officials to oppose Trump’s actions and to use all their power to reign in the authoritarian Trump regime.
