The thing they don’t understand about drawing NSFW is that it’s a roleplay with yourself. It’s an expression of your ideas and fantasies, made entirely by you, in a way that can’t hurt anybody. Needing the characters to consent is ludicrous: I’m the artist and *I* consent. I’m the only participant.

on top of that, theres already queerness in indie space, and corpos famously hate the queers, so its more fun sometimes to queer up something heteronormative and lame than try to 'fanfic-ify' something already queered up to 11

lrp i think a part of the reason why fandom tends to form around popular media is it feels touchable & moldable. An indie comic has someone's OCs so i cant put my fanfic hands on them, but Joe from CBS is a corporate orphan and has no one to claim creative control over him

The homogenisation and consolidation of buisinesses and brands has led to the erosion of the midlist, the indie movie or band or comic. There's a real sense of "I'll only try media that's already popular / famous," and I'm begging you to look for the weird shit, the experimental, the niche.
