Built a PD toolkit that teachers could modify themselves instead of just consume. Watching what they changed was like seeing mycorrhizal networks form - the connections they made weren't the ones I designed for, but they were exactly what their students needed. Control is overrated.

The topic? "Designing for connectivity challenges in rural learning." The irony was not lost on me as I sat next to the jerky display explaining why we need to build offline-first learning experiences. Sometimes the universe has a sense of humor about our work.

Education board votes to finalize embrace of phonics-based reading instruction for South Dakota • South Dakota Searchlight South Dakota students will once again be taught to read using a phonics-based instructional framework, a state board has decided.

The old way of reading instruction is officially the new way for South Dakota classrooms after a Monday vote from the state's Board of Education Standards. The phonics-based approach improved scores for students in the Douglas School District, board members learned.
