"The problem is not that governments ignore international law."

You see, the problem with the mechanical "crimes versus not crimes" framework is that it doesn't recognize that when WE use force it's a "humanitarian intervention."

We have this silly "binary" whereby things are either crimes or not crimes. We know this binary is foolish because if we accept it, it would mean things the U.S. does are just as illegal as things Russia does. That cannot be so! Thus, we must reject the "binary."

A Washington Post op-ed says we need to stop thinking about such silly concepts as whether US actions are "legal" or "illegal." They admit that by these outmoded criteria the Iran war is of course illegal. But if we adopt a new framework, we will see that crime is good!
