Today is #rarediseaseday and in the @araujolabub.bsky.social @geneticsub.bsky.social @biologiaub.bsky.social @ibub-ub.bsky.social weβre using Drosophila melanogaster as a powerful model to study rare diseases.

Is there a relationship between kinship in parents and aging?
New research in #GENETICS describes the influence of parental kinship on global methylation and #epigenetic age, which may decelerate aging in #deermice offspring. π

New paper out! In this project, we focused on the question how tissue mechanics is spatially controlled during development. We show that the GPCR ligand Fog acts as a βmechanogenβ during Drosophila gastrulation, driving a self-organized wave of tissue invagination:

In addition to all the well-documented stresses on the system, reviewer fatigue/saturation drives worse reviews which in turn promotes more journal shopping by authors which leads to paper recirculation and, yes, you guessed it, more reviewer fatigue π΅βπ«
