They casually ignore me specifically saying I’d buy it secondhand purely because I don’t need the latest specs, that I know because the super old thing I used to own before they broke it worked more than well enough so something less old is fine. Not spending over 1k for no reason.

When you tell someone you are considering buying something in the future if the thing you have doesn’t work on a task you were considering doing and it turns into a whole ordeal where they must know where your every cent is going because you must be able to buy that thing as they can.

AI Needs So Much Power, It’s Making Yours Worse There’s a strong link between proximity to AI data centers and higher levels of distorted power in residential areas

Real life is not like science fiction, where the power usage required for processing rarely, if ever, factors into the plot.

I still care very much about the ethics of AI usage but I really think its environmental and infrastructural impact desperately needs more exposure.
