If Only 19th-Century America Had Listened to a Woman Scientist Where might the US be if it heeded her discovery of global warmingโ€™s source?

19th-century amateur researcher Eunice Foote made a crucial early discovery in the study of climate change. Where might the US be if it heeded her discovery of global warmingโ€™s source? ๐Ÿงช

For Maths fans, 2025 is a square.
45ยฒ = 45 x 45 = 2025
Also,
9ยฒ x 5ยฒ = 2025
40ยฒ + 20ยฒ + 5ยฒ = 2025
My favourite?
1ยณ+2ยณ+3ยณ+4ยณ+5ยณ+6ยณ+7ยณ+8ยณ+9ยณ = 2025

A remarkable view of the Tbilisi protest tonight from above.

100,000 Georgians gathered to hear their President speak outside Parliament as the anti-Russia resistance continues for a 25th straight night.

These amazing images are being captured by local photographer Ezz Gaber.

An ongoing passion project of mine at work: making small info placards about women in STEM that hang in our campus biology building. Their stories give me strength & hope especially now when we face 4 years of darkness. Here is the 1st of many I'll be sharing. #WomeninSTEM #academicsky #skystorians

when republicans make stuff about the economy, we rightly call them out. We should do the same when people make up stuff about plants. Building your world view around a fantasy is always a poor life choice.

The instute model was to hire brilliant people and support them to get on with it. This worked brilliantly for years until the level of support was not enough.

When I was a grad student in the 1980s at the Carnegie Institution there was a fight between the staff and the admin. Staff wanted to be able to write grant proposals. The institution forbade them because they believed that grant funded research by definition could not be ahead of its time.

Dorsal view of a grey trilobite fossil partially revealed from a sandy matrix, that has dark grey stone edges, and rusty patches of clay or minerals. The eyes are reflective gold or pyrite. Visible brushstrokes and canvas texture, not a high degree of realism.

A reminder for new folks. BlueSky does not have an algorithm to raise posts of interest. It is incumbent upon you to do so via reposting. Liking things only provides feedback to the poster but does not promote the post. The signal to noise ratio is taking a brief beating, so great to help curate.

49 million-year-old beetle looks like it was squashed yesterday Paleontologists named the insect "Attenborough's Beauty," after Sir David Attenborough.

Here's a stunner for #FossilFriday, just look at that beetle's preserved wing case! It belongs to a group called frog-legged leaf beetles (so-named for their extra-juicy rear legs), paleontologists called its pattern "the most perfectly preserved pigment-based colouration known in fossil beetles" ๐Ÿงช
