Cairo has an immense problem with stray cats and dogs on the street yet it dawned on me today that despite the lack of street cleaning of any sort, I haven't seen or stepped on any dog shit despite being here four days already.

I am struck by the abject poverty on Cairo's streets but at the same saw many occasions last night where people would just put money into the hands of street children. No conversation, no acknowledgement, just giving. My faith in humanity has been restored.
