24.09.2025 16:50 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 1Yesterday marked 8 years since the late Sarah Hegazi raised the rainbow flag at a Mashrou' Leila concert in a moment of uncalculated joy so threatening to Egyptian authorities that they arrested, tortured, prosecuted her, and sent her to exile.

Graphic with the headline โLondon is the greatest city in the worldโ set against a bright view of the River Thames with the Shard, Tower Bridge and the city skyline. The text celebrates what makes London special: regularly voted the number one city in the world, incredible diversity with over 300 languages spoken, world-class transport, world leader in finance tech and life sciences, best museums and galleries many free to visit, world-leading nightlife, food sport and music for every taste, host to the worldโs best sporting events, home to seven Premier League clubs, globally-ranked universities, a city where you can be yourself and love who you love, and a place for everyone.
Iโve said it once, Iโll say it again.

A year on since we have been raising the alarm. We have been shouting Labour canโt out reform Reform and with the far right rising I have seen my communities divided and this is what we have now. I hope this โprogressive fight backโ is not too little too late.

What an absolute privilege it was to join Ambassador Dr Husam Zomlot at the Palestine Embassy today to raise the flag and mark this historic recognition of the State of Palestine. As he reminded us, this is just the first step, we still need the violence to end and a permanent ceasefire.

I wish Iโd seen more people like me when I was at school, people saying itโs okay to be different. I know many of you in that room probably felt the same way I did, all those years ago. Just know: you are not alone.
