Let’s call it 旧正月 as Japan does. Solve this dispute (while probably creating another one.)

If today is your new year's eve, I hope you get all the dumplings, or tangyuan, or rice cakes that your heart desires.

May your uncles be happy drunk. May your aunties speak of you as the successful cousin everyone should be more like.

And may the year ahead bring good fortune. 🎉🐴🧧🧨

NHK's map of election district results shows LDP red making major gains across the country.
Osaka, the home of the LDP's coalition partner, the Ishin Party, remains Ishin territory.
30 minutes after the polls have closed, they haven't called a single district for the Centrist Reform Alliance.

I’m thinking to get a set of mugs of “short-lived PMs” for the office.

Frank Forde and “Black Jack” McEwan don’t get enough respect.

I was disappointed that the Australian parliament doesn’t have a 歴代総理マグ.
Instead you have to buy individual mugs for each one:

Not election related, but photos like this make me miss Tokyo so much (source: Nikkei).

Still remember walking home through snow above my knees one night in 2015/6. Glorious…

I couldn’t think of the word for “needle” in Japanese and the only way I could describe it was “sewing spear.”

Which actually is pretty clear.

Whenever anyone says Japan has “spent $xx billion propping up the yen” you can just point them to this.

This might be the most Aussie thing I’ve ever done - calling the council to report a large dead roo on the side of the road.

MSDF must be so mad that they couldn’t get Aegis Ashore approved. Forcing them to do what they likely always wanted to do.

I remember the hotel. And I remember noticing that the floors at some point were rated to tens/hundreds of tons of industrial engines. Just the thing you need for a talkfest.

They moved Davos to the new convention center? I went there while it was under construction and even then it was crazy big.

And also seems totally unsuited for a Davos-like convention. More motor shows and industrial equipment, like Canton Fair.
