Yes, exactly this. My review was that it stayed a little too true to the stage version, and I wanted the transition from foe to friend to be given more depth.
But I think the second half had some of the better moments, so I'm still hopeful for part two.
When you buy their gas, you enable and encourage them to keep it up and directly add to their profits. You can't blame companies for selling products that you keep willingly buying.
The only way to stop this is to reduce car dependence.
The Muni Monthly Pass now costs $1020 annually. A Residential Parking Pass (RPP) costs $190. Why is it 5 times cheaper to store an entire car curbside than to ride Muni?

Ok, but I still feel safer around these than human drivers.
I am 100% on board with prioritizing active and public transit over cars, but I also think we should prioritize AVs over human-driven rideshares or taxis. And eventually over private vehicles.

Driver alone in a car taking up huge space next to a packed city bus and tight pedestrian and bike space all filled with people complains “Damn those bike paths and bus lanes taking up all the space.”
This iconic Fabian Todorovic cartoon is still one of the best I’ve seen at illustrating the remarkable amount of space we surrender to cars, leaving little space left for everyone and everything else. The text added later makes the bonus point that many drivers still manage to complain about it.

There are plenty of resources out there for parents to figure out what's represented in a show. Proactively erasing people is simply indulging those who have just that bigoted desire - "I don't want that type of person visible." Maybe the uncomfortable conversation with your kid is why you think so.
