Just started reading Du Mez’s Jesus and John Wayne, and this sounds/feels like the embattlement she describes. Problem is, children should not be seen as collateral damage for ideologies. Education is a public service.

What if we simply embraced life and the challenges and tensions that come with that? Instead of willingly letting tech bros dictate what they feel is ideal and handing over our data, we unplug? I don’t want to live in a Philip Dick or Ray Bradbury—I think they didn’t either.

The rule of law is all or nothing and must apply equally to everyone. If there's no rule of law for some people in America, then there's no rule of law for any of us.

Marks are so ambiguous (and at times even punitive). I know little about what a grade 3 can do or what standards they have. Bands of vertical discussions and collaborations offer reciprocity (enrichment, preparation, scaffolding, etc.). I recommended this in our district, but nothing happened.

Hard agree. Having a clear understanding of expectations and pedagogy (as well as alignment in teacher prep programs) is the way to growth. Despite generational differences in learning and teaching, we should work together to strengthen our knowledge and practice, helping all learners.

Unfortunately, I know that pain; the former student I lost this year was a victim in a robbery. Every last time it hurts. I am sorry for your loss, and I am praying for you and their family.

Perhaps it is easier to excuse or dismiss, rather than consider what others are sharing. It is clear that this is more a reaction than a discussion. There are many sources that might offer lucid connections, for example Rothstein’s The Color of Law. In the meantime, I wish you well.

Which people? What things? How might one separate what is happening from the deliberate systems designed to pull focus from those systems? It is possible for me to be concerned about my own life and wallet without voting in a way that causes/maintains injury.

What makes white supremacy nuanced exactly? Subversive, insidious, calculated. But the tenets and definition are pretty clear. After reading through this thread, is this a reaction or a discussion? Is it too unreasonable to listen to a lived experience?

This resonates with me but from the opposite end. I ask permission from students to pray for them or to simply hold space for them. I do not hide my faith, but I also (hopefully) do not impose it. Thank you for your vulnerability and awareness; you always inspire me. ❤️
