βLast July, a flash flood in Texas killed more than 100 people. The National Weather Serviceβs forecast was very good, Spinrad said, but there was no one filling a position responsible for warning local officials and emergency managers at the time.β

Police body cam footage shows DOGE knew Institute of Peace was private property during raid
Footage obtained by The Handbasketβs lawsuit shows a hostile takeover on March 17, 2025.
SCOOP β Body camera footage obtained as a result of my lawsuit against the DC Metropolitan PD confirms DOGE and the Trump administration openly admitted they were entering private property when they raided the building on March 17, 2025. That didn't stop MPD from breaking down the doors.
My report:

It's almost like one needs to extend a "theory of mind" also to the world in aggregate.
Sort of the paranoid's "Something's bound to go wrong, so, what's it gonna be?"

Itβs not just ICE/CBP. Our entire police structure is rotten.
A first step is invalidating the doctrine of qualified immunity.
The next is holding cops accountable for their testimony.
Then we define their status as licensed, and the licensing board is independent, and autonomous.

Mind, *any* place that has "The Village" as part of (or even the whole of) its name brings back times spent watching Patrick McGoohan being chased by a big white bubble and insisting he was not a number.

Hawaii SB2761 | 2026 | Regular Session
Summary (2026-03-06) Relating To Social Media. [48 Hrs. Notice 03-10-26.]
Hawaii: you're up. Call your House representatives and tell them to oppose SB 2761, which is heading to the House from the Senate: it's a total ban on social media for under-16s, not made any better by the obvious typo in the effective date of 2077. legiscan.com/HI/bill/SB27...

A wedge of a cake on a plate, fork nearby, liberally sprinkled with powdered sugar. The interior of the cake is layered, white and then dark red, sandwiched between two layers of baked cake.
But, as he said multiple times during the trip: all roads may lead to Rome, but once you get here, that's when it gets challenging, because you have to choose where - and HOW - in Rome you want to go.β¨β¨

Luckily, our wandering had brought us to the Metro - the Colosseum stop was easy to retreat to, and our tickets were as good for it as for the train and bus. Loving Spouse and I had to discuss the precise way back; we each had a different idea of the best way.

A broad walkway slopes away from the viewer, ultimately pointing to a distant building, curved and made up largely of arches in three storeys, plus a more solid "extension" above that. A diagonal "cut" of the wall's line gives this the identifying characteristic of what we call "The Colosseum" today. Some of that is obscured by trees, columns and even fencing, stretching along the right side of the walkway. Some people are visible from their backs, from the mid-ground to the far background, where they are tiny figures. On the right a white man wearing glasses and a blue jacket stands, looking at something out of the frame, mobile phone in his right hand.
Still coming to grips with the sheer scale of it all, we tried to learn if we could "walk around" and maybe see the Roman Forum as well. But, we tried to go into what turned out to be the Forum *exit*; I had to admit my feet were done for the day. Still, the Colosseum made a nice backdrop, eh?

Three columns visible on the right remain from Caesar's "Venus Genetrix" temple. "Genetrix" has a lot more punch than "Ancestress" in English, but part of the point is Gaius Julius Caesar asserting a divine origin of his *gens*, or tribe, the Julii. Somewhat less easy to discern, to the left and farther away, is a series of double columns, marking where the "Basilica Argentaria" stood. The domed building beyond and to the left is the church of Saint Luca and Saint Martina.
And even the areas overlooking the ruins were very lively. Still, knowing my feet would be happier if we kept moving, we took a gentle amble along the Forum of Caesar where the street overlooked it. Despite not being able to wander directly in it, the view still gave great pleasure.

The week previous to this, Rome had gotten a lot of rain; this meant that there was no access between the Forum of Trajan, through to the Forum of Caesar, and also then the Roman Forum. But when we wandered back across the street, we could see the main entrance was MOBBED.
