Just renewed my @fndsociety.bsky.social membership!

They've done a huge amount of work over the last few years to improve research, treatment, and education for folks with FND. And there's clearly more ahead.

Check them out!

An important study (IMO) looking at social dynamics re: FND on Twitter.

People w FND face continual attack by a variety of groups who dismiss our condition and experiences - ranging from abusive clinicians to other disabled people.

It makes it even harder to exist in public with this dx.

Not sure we need word β€˜may’- the rate of diagnostic increase is biologically implausible and speaks to diagnostic practice- probably previously under disgnosed now considerably over diagnosed

Finally: AI cannot do your job, but an AI salesman can 100% convince your boss to fire you and replace you with an AI that can't do your job, and when the bubble bursts, the money-hemorrhaging "foundation models" will be shut off and we'll lose the AI that can't do your job, and you will be long gone, retrained or retired or "discouraged" and out of the labor market, and no one will do your job.

Would one not antipate differences depending on system thus for vision space may be more important but say pain one might predict time??

They made a nice job of it and it is well reasoned- although part of me thinks you could have knocked out the answer in the pub before you got half way through first pint

It’s not β€œdismissing” someone to give them a diagnosis of Functional Neurological Disorder.

Like all other conditions, it’s either

1. A correct dx for that person, or
2. not.

When you say β€œdismissing as FND,” you reveal that you think there’s a hierarchy of disorders, some more legit than others

Is it not the case that both propositions are extremes- lesion based studies clearly show some localisation but adaptations shows widespread networks- so my bet is schrodingers- you’re both simultaneously right and wrong
