Agreed, the cinematography and production design are A+.

I also loved the UFO and creature design. The set was very “industrial HR Geiger.”

It hits all the beats, goes to desert to Antarctic to alien stuff.If I had been hyped all year to go see it in theaters back in the day, I would be disappointed. But watching it in my living room with some snacks and another an huge xfiles fan who loves to ship Mulder and Scully, I had a great time.

It’s plot is definitely just ok but living as we do in an age of franchise slop filmed on green screen, I liked it. It’s shot really well and the Mulder/Scully dynamic is perfect. And the production design is great. It’s not top tier xfiles but it’s a fun distillation of the Xfiles vibe to a movie.

Yeah, I get that. What makes it work for me though is that the show is very rooted in post-Cold War America and dealing with the lingering ramifications the US government did during that time.

There's literally an episode where it's quite clear the devil (or a demon) shows up to mess with school teachers. There's another where it's made VERY clear God sent 4 mentally handicapped kids to Earth so they could die as teenagers so Scully could get over the death of her child. (its problematic)

This isn't a criticism. I love that the show clearly mixes sci-fi and theology. I love that both exist in this world. It's just wild to me that it's not ever something that gets talked about in mainstream discourse on the show. Until I watched it, I had NO idea.

What's wilder is that God seems to be trying to tell Scully how important it is that she is the skeptic in her relationship with Mulder, which is a wild thing for God of all beings to stick his finger in things to say.

Watching the X-Files for the first time, its wild to me that while everyone talks about the aliens, no one talks about how literal GOD is an undeniable entity in the show who CONSTANTLY intervenes to send Scully messages about how important she is.

Erin and I had an amazing time on the Star Trek Cruise. We’re so damn adorable together.

But they can’t even be bothered to treat their employees… excuse me, contract workers with basic respect. I doubt they’ll start with trans people.

All it shows is the Lyft is trying to get in early on the eventual cultural backswing post-the current political pendulum swing. Tell me when Lyft says it’ll give all trans people free rides until we have all our basic human rights, then maybe I’ll buy their earnestness.

Rainbow capitalism will not save us. Absolutely driving me bonkers that some LGBTQ orgs are celebrating Lyft giving a $10 discount for “trans joy” in the face of Kansas’ human rights abuses as some sort of magnanimous positive and not just meaningless culture war corporate performativity.
