We're proud to announce that The Generator is now generating renewable energy thanks to a newly commissioned 8kW solar array, marking a new chapter in the building's history. Once a powerhouse of industrial education, the building is once again a source of power -now for a sustainable future ⚡️

Sixty-five years after the last diesel generator was shut down and Loughborough College was first connected to the National Grid, The Generator Loughborough is once again producing electricity — but this time in a cleaner, greener way.

The closure has been extended by 2 days. Followed by a couple more days with the pavement remaining closed for core drilling into the building, earth pit for the lighting conductors, and water connection pits to be dug.

Good news: Packe Street reopens soon after our essential drainage and renovation work at The Generator. Thanks for your patience during this closure - just one more day to go as we continue transforming this heritage building into Loughborough’s new Arts and Cultural Centre ⚡️

Progress update: Our new skylights are now installed 🔆 These glass panels will flood natural light throughout the building, enhancing the interior space while maintaining the character of the original structure.

This architectural element combines form and function - raw steel against the backdrop of original brick and white tile walls creates the perfect balance of old and new.

More steps towards completion! Our custom steel staircase is now in place, creating a striking industrial feature that connects our different levels.

Generator Building Update 🚧

The electrical installation is progressing nicely. Everything on schedule!

They’re beginning the new mezzanine floor installation this Thursday, which will expand our usable space. Project remains on track for completion.

These panels will provide comprehensive connectivity throughout the space. Wiring is nearly complete with conduit and cable pathways in place. Keep posted for more updates ⚡️

The first theatre technical panels are going in. @messengerbcr @birchall7479 and contractors are hard at work mounting all connection points - DMX outputs, lighting data ports, power outlets and audio connections.

SPOTTED IN PARLIAMENT: Jeevun Sandher MP championing The Generator Loughborough. Fantastic to see this space getting national recognition before we even open.

We were impressed with such promising candidates and looking forward to having some of these bright, vibrant minds join our family soon!

university of Leicester students studying Art Museum and Gallery Studies (MA) to explore placement opportunities.

We're delighted to welcome Jess Vollar Bell as the new Chief Executive of The Generator Loughborough! A Loughborough local and former Rawlins pupil, Jess brings together her experience from London's theatre scene and a decade in arts venue management.

Could have left it derelict, could have made a great exhibition space.

Thank you for joining us recently at Institute to explore the Generator's journey. Your valuable input on its future as a local arts and culture space will help shape the building's development as we work towards the 2025 opening.

One thing is apparent - our community envisions The Generator as more than just an exhibition space – they see it as a creative centre where local and international artists can collaborate, complete with residency programs and networking events connecting artists, students, and locals. Thank you 🙏🏻

You want to see exhibition opportunities for local artists, mental health and wellness programs, and interactive performances. Many suggested textile workshops, live music ranging from classical to contemporary, and community dinners to bring everyone together.

We got some great feedback from our community about what they’d like to see at The Generator on Friday. You expressed interest in accessible art history and theory lectures, alongside diverse workshop opportunities for artists and students.
