The game gets more playable every single patch with qol, social features, and now chat bubbles. they're not "big" systems changes nor are they "content" but they do noticeably improve how it feels to play the game generally.

After thinking about it, I think the biggest reason Occult Crescent flopped is that FFXIV is a game that stays about the same or gets marginally better over time and it's decently rare to just backslide hard from successful design.
