2025 is weird if you were born in 1975. Lots of people turn 50, but you would think the perspective of living almost equally in the 20th & 21st Centuries would bring some sort of wisdom. It doesn’t. I can’t make sense of any of it. All I can say is we should be on a different, much better path.

We can learn a lot about the world we live in watching STAR TREK. But some important lessons are about the future, such as:
• things get A LOT WORSE before they get better, but
• we survive, unite, and explore the galaxy,
• and, sadly, human entertainment peaks in the 20th Century.

I have a great respect for Sagan, and most of the book is an unfortunately justified dire warning, but there are some passages about pop culture that don’t age well. In fairness, he died in December 1996 so wouldn’t have had access to the X-FILES past mid season 4.
