Avel Gordly, Oregon’s first Black woman state senator, dies at 79 “I know that my presence made a difference,” she said of her time in office. “I know that my voice made a difference.”

My heart is with Senator Gordly's family and community today as we all mourn her passing. Our state is a better, more compassionate place because of her trailblazing leadership and fierce advocacy.

I serve on Oregon's State Land Board, which oversees the Common School Fund and sends millions of dollars every year to Oregon’s public schools. One of my proudest accomplishments was working w/ Oregonians to create the Elliott State Research Forest w/ the Dept. of State Lands.

Thank you to Oregon’s county clerks and elections staff. I know how tough your job can be, how long the hours can be and how the scrutiny can feel relentless. It's because of you and the people you work with that Oregonians across the state get to hold governments accountable.

The SAVE Act is a terrible solution in search of a problem. Not only would it make it nearly impossible for citizens to vote-by-mail, costing all of us time & money, it would make voting harder for married women & anyone who can’t take time off work, or drive, or walk to vote.

Audits should be aimed at finding and preventing future problems, not pointing out obvious issues after the damage is already done. Under this plan, we’re making sure Oregon’s good intentions turn into real results – for you. #orpol
