Except in one respect: Both exited public life in their mid-40s. (Too soon?)

Strange to think Dan Quayle (born Feb. 1947) is younger than all of them and left the White House before any of them entered.

Those headlines suck. Bouie, an opinion writer who has nothing to do with the headlines that appear on news articles, is good.

Overbey left the New Yorker in a messy public way that earned her a lot of Twitter followers and then seemed to get addicted to the attention

Yes, that immediately jumped out to me as well. Every time Democrats lose, the whole party wrings their hands about whether they are elites who are too out of touch with Real Americans, when it's actually Republicans who are more likely to be perceived that way!

I think the perception of Democrats as "out of touch" is real. But pundits tend to view this through a more ideological prism than voters do. "Out of touch" doesn't always mean "too left-wing." It could also mean weak/ineffective/unable to meet the moment. Or it could mean elitist/corporatist.

The only people who would give Democrats credit for moderating are pundits. Republicans still wouldn't vote for them, and independents would see them as wishy-washy.

Like, maybe it's the GOP who needs to be more "culturally normal."

Very interesting that voters perceive Republicans to be more elitist than Democrats, considering that fear of being perceived as elitist and out of touch with Real America is often what drives Dems to moderate and distance themselves from activists and the left.

This happened 18 days ago, at the start of the Olympics. (They had not yet won the gold medal.) teamusa.usahockey.com/news_article...

This is fun, but it wasn't after they won the gold medal. It happened on Feb. 8, on an off day during the preliminary round. teamusa.usahockey.com/news_article...

Honestly I think she can overcome it because she is seen as a more credible voice of working people than Clinton or Harris. She projects anti-establishment in a way that they couldn't.

Nobody would care nearly as much if he hadn't been a beloved celebrity before he became a senator. People are blinded by the fact that they found him funny.

Reminds me of Trump's habit of saying "everyone knows this, even the Democrats know this, though they won't admit it." It creates the impression that any opposition is performative or manufactured and bolsters his false election claims (how could he have lost when so many people agree with him?)

Reddit apologises for online Boston 'witch hunt' Social news site Reddit has issued a public apology for the way speculation on the site led to people being wrongly accused of the Boston bombings.

Early example of this was the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013:
