This was a bit spooky last night. I was watching an old Parkinson from 1973 or '74. Parky's only guest was Andy Williams, and after five or ten minutes he gets up to sing Neil Sedaka's song Solitaire. And whose death was reported yesterday?

carrot. I don't think I'm going to use this recipe again. I prefer Floyd's. It's tastier. You can skip straight to 2m 30s for Keith's attempt at the dish in that video by the way. For a change, I'm not having it as a side dish, it's the main dish this time. Bit of a cock up on the catering front.

Pav bhaji - Wikipedia
I've made one of my favourite curry side dishes today, pav bhaji. I think of it as a side dish but it's really a popular Mumbai street food served with a roll. It's onions, tomatoes, potatoes, cauliflower, peas, spices and lots of butter. At least that's how I've made

There were fantastic finds to be had in charity shops and junk shops in the 70s. I mostly went for kitchen utensils and implements. Got some great bargains that you wouldn't find now.

Those were all the rage a few years after I was wearing grandad vests. I got one (I still have it) in a junk shop in Manchester, a black one, very long shirtails and an odd non-collar stitched in with a gap at the front. It took me a few years to realise it's probably a priest's shirt!

£0.62 each? Bloody Nora. A sixpack of those here would be around $11 or $12, or about $2 a can*. £1.48 according to an online currency converter. Cheers Robin!
*I wouldn't trust my maths as far as I could throw a Babbage difference engine.

To make sure we're talking about the same thing, ie grandad vests, do you mean something like a t-shirt but with three buttons at the neck, a bit like this but sloppier?

I had a grandad shirt too, light blue. I don't think it was a Brutus but I had a Brutus Trimfit, red white and blue check. There's not much chance of me getting into anything called Trimfit these days unless it's elasticated.

It isn't a lumberjack shirt btw although it looks like it. Even money it's either a Ben Sherman or a Brutus Trimfit.

I can only see a tiny part of that shirt but it's enough to know that I want one like it.

I hoped it would mention Spike Milligan. It didn't. Like every other nerd I have asked Alexa (at work) what is the answer to life, the universe and everything, and it gave the correct result (lots of booze).
Episode 3 of Small Prophets tonight. It's getting interesting now. Also The Grimleys.

How did beetroot stains get there? And why did I put that knife in that drawer? Knives don't go in drawers, unless you're looking to slice open a finger (I'm not). I wonder if I asked an AI why rain is so thin it would tell me it's because the holes in the sky that it comes in through are small?

They're a rare treat for me too because they're so bloody hard to find. The beer selection at the food co-op and the big offie next door is woeful. Neither of them are specialist beer shops. The foodie supermarket I used to buy beer at is now hard for me to get to. Long and boring story.

'Kilometerage' will never replace 'mileage' even long after the whole world has embraced the metric system fully and no-one uses miles to measure distance.
