i'm pointing to the HK protestors.
they knew this. and at least some of them felt strongly that theirs was the right path, even after everything they went through.
wrote some words about "when is performative protest meaningful if it leads to worse outcomes than capitulation"
(my answer: idk, but it's not always worthless, even in loss conditions.)
i'm citing 1000x resist because it was written by a team who made the choice and wanted very strongly to inspire others in similar situations to make a similar choice.
idk much about HK protests, but "we still felt this was the best path even though we lost" is an important takeaway
but it's not nothing.
02.12.2025 22:06 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0i'm responding narrowly to your point that messaging "accomplishes nothing" and "doesn't affect the world."
i strongly disagree. sometimes it sends a signal to others. i wish that had more value than it does.
did girlguides "resist until they couldn't?" does their choice lead to more good? idk.
but no.
we can't say that.
because it has gone down in history: that the protestors resisted fiercely
that they fought for a different future
until they couldn't
youtu.be/OqD3o6aGVy4?...
hundreds of thousands marching shoulder to shoulder
biggest demonstrations in HK history
the world watched it all happen, heard their voices, saw them bleed
if they stayed silent...didn't stand up for themselves...the world would say, "this is how it always was. this is what the people wanted"
you remember the ππ° hong kong protests?
"all it did was expedite the end... brought their fist down harder, faster... they lost, didn't they?"
but it wasn't just about winning
I recognize that such a statement would be legally inadvisable, but itβs the Right Thing To Do, and thatβs more important in these sorts of spiritual battles
Totally understand what theyβre doing and why but even though the position makes sense, itβs the cowardβs way. I think itβs the wrong call
βWe will not change our policies around this even though it exposes us to liability. If a disgruntled parent wants to sue us, they can, but theyβll be hurting our group and what we stand for by doing soβ is a way better play by a mile

02.12.2025 16:06 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I suspect that we really do need to emphasize a much more social learning/collaborative knowledge approach to this versus individual understanding, that's the piece that software culture doesn't like to admit though!

That post was a message
That post was not a post of honor
The danger of that post exists in your time as it did in ours
This helped me understand, thank you
26.11.2025 21:24 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Quoted post supposes that anti-AI sentiment will become a major factor in left wing politics
Quote post is saying AI tools are currently too popular to foresee anti-AI sentiment taking hold on the left
Is that not directly engaging with the argument? Sure heβs wrong but thatβs besides your point
I understand Google considers their TPU tech a point of competitive advantage, thereβs no way they would want that division to be spun off.
Google and GDM certainly use TPUs for training
