Because of the National driver register, since their licenses are suspended, trans folks cannot move to another state and get a new license until they remove the suspension on their existing Kansas license.

They can't even escape this by moving to another state.

I recently had a break from work and was SO creative/productive, and in hindsight the prevailing thought was “well if people using Claude can publish side projects, I can TOO damnit” and that was HIGHLY motivating

As a psychologist I think yeah, there is a topic of concern here which is how do current fulltime SWEs invest in learning and protect skill growth. But that is not the ONLY psychological topic here: this whole change to people's self-concepts and potential motivation to do technical work is big

The reason I think this motivation effect is interesting is because it is *another* interesting counter to the bad outcomes we don't want (passive, skill loss). Ppl experiencing unexpected rapid changes to their evaluation of what's possible GET MOTIVATED. They want to do more, not less, solve more
