you absolutely can burn your grassroots potential with overactivation but that's for your team to manage, not the team of electeds you're playing against. our community has been irresponsibly *under*activated by lgbtq org leadership and spontaneous grassroots calls like this have no downside at all.

the next software paradigm will be TDD-driven development

It’s where one guy takes a comprehensive open source test suite (SQLite, clang/llvm’s suite, web platform tests, ) and goes β€œI bet I could get Claude to reimplement code that passes this suite”

and then he forks over $25k of opus tokens

OpenAI And Google Staffers Sign Petition Seeking Limits On Pentagon's AI Use The petition comes after Anthropic issued a statement refusing to accept the Department of Defense’s demand for unrestricted access to its AI tools.

And now comes a petition from hundreds of workers at Google and OpenAI in defense of Anthropic's stance

Anthropic’s actual statement is 99% pro-military and 1% β€œwe will still impose these two constraints on Claude,” so here’s hoping the Google and OpenAI folks who build on it are able to continue to shift the balance

I’ve been enjoying the original Quake lately

I’m a doom girl, I got my start in computer science playing Sonic the hedgehog mods built on top of the original doom, but quake turns out to also be pretty great in its own way

Trans inmate's lawyers claim "egregious retaliation" in violation of court order Trans woman involved in a lawsuit challenging anti-trans policies says federal prison official told her on Feb. 22: β€œI don’t give a fuck what that judge says, I do what I want.”

Is this the β€œI don’t give a fuck about the judge I do what I want” fellow or is that a different case?

the most notable part of the far right buying up legacy news media is that liberals generally always trusted legacy media far more, aside from places like fox news. the downstream effect of this, maybe intentionally, is to have more people distrust media. misinformation will spread easier

Statement from Dario Amodei on our discussions with the Department of War A statement from our CEO on national security uses of AI

Anthropic released a statement on this, www.anthropic.com/news/stateme... I don’t know if the pentagon responded

like this isn't 2012, there are no national queer rights orgs who are flush with cash. Everyone I speak with is dramatically cutting their budgets. And red state queer orgs are always fighting uphill on a shoestring budget.

My challenge to you today is to google a red state queer org and donate.

401,000 people moving state to state in fear of having legal documents invalidated (KS), jail time for using restrooms (FL, UT), loss of access to adult care (dozens) or youth care (dozens even in D-led states), & the message from β€œopposition” is still largely β€œyou’re making too big a deal of this.”

Trans Continental Pipeline Queer Relocation Nonprofit in Denver, Colorado

MAKE AN EMERGENCY DONATION to Trans Continental Pipeline right now.

They are a Colorado based org that helps trans people relocate there and they are overwhelmed with requests. CO borders KS, and TCP has the infrastructure to help get people out.

GO DONATE.

Because of the National driver register, since their licenses are suspended, trans folks cannot move to another state and get a new license until they remove the suspension on their existing Kansas license.

They can't even escape this by moving to another state.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT, HAMAS WORKED ALONG WITH ISRAEL AND THEY DUG, AND THEY DUG, AND THEY DUG... I'VE ALWAYS WANTED THE CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR...

NYT Translation: In his first State of the Union address of his second✩ term, President Trump offered a rosy portrait of a U.S. that has lost confidence in his leadership.

to be honest this adds another layer of horror for me, because it implies that trans people won’t have any path forward here after Trump

Have you looked at hate/spite motivation?

I recently had a break from work and was SO creative/productive, and in hindsight the prevailing thought was β€œwell if people using Claude can publish side projects, I can TOO damnit” and that was HIGHLY motivating

25.02.2026 12:21 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

As a psychologist I think yeah, there is a topic of concern here which is how do current fulltime SWEs invest in learning and protect skill growth. But that is not the ONLY psychological topic here: this whole change to people's self-concepts and potential motivation to do technical work is big

25.02.2026 12:08 β€” πŸ‘ 34    πŸ” 4    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 1

The reason I think this motivation effect is interesting is because it is *another* interesting counter to the bad outcomes we don't want (passive, skill loss). Ppl experiencing unexpected rapid changes to their evaluation of what's possible GET MOTIVATED. They want to do more, not less, solve more

what's next in my extra adventures?

- book flights
- fix ICCVW holdouts
- publish the CVF paper stamping pipeline to PyPI + github
- finish the β–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆβ–ˆ and get back to the lovely people around that [redacted due to legal reasons]
- pick a proper math textbook to study

24.02.2026 13:52 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

- Some progress: Apartment cleaning: only did the worst of the trash. Still no clean flat surfaces anywhere. Laundry is under control tho.

- Some progress: rediscovered Saxon math, but it's broadly below my level

- Poor progress: Didn't get flight tickets yet
- Poor progress: Didnt touch virus war

24.02.2026 13:49 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

- Some progress: not much work done on the NYCT + NJT + PATH subway stringlines project, but NJT approved my API access! so i've been downloading about a week's worth of historical data. I do have a fairly reliable data model. The next step would be to see how NJT's scheduling differs from the MTA's
