rough sketches bc i keep on trying to incorporate surrealism into my pieces somehow and then i get intimated and ditch it for the next 6000 years
This piece is based on a still from an opening to the anime. An elderly Yakumo, dressed in black kimono and hat, with purple scarf and underclothes, has his clothing pulled open to reveal the bones of his ribcage and spine as opposed to his body proper. He is rendered in a more weighty, oil painted style, with lots fiery oranges illuminating his otherwise sallow skin. Pulling open his clothes is a ghostly Sukeroku, sketched in pencil with thin watercolor washes, and almost evaporating into drips of said paint. Yakumo stoically glances toward Sukeroku, who smiles back. Blocked around them are flat, orangey streaks, reminiscent of fire.
Here's some Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju stuff I originally intended to post around Valentine's Day. Because boy, do I love it when characters haunt the freakin narrative.

A sketch from my Persona 3 museum-inspired series. This sketch is extremely rough, and most characters aren't yet recognizable. They include outlines of the main cast all walking down a museum hall and looking at the sculptures along the sides. The protagonist is facing the viewer in the middle ground. In the foreground is a sketch of a bust facing away from the viewer. The alcoves along the hall include characters who do/could die during the game.
I'm digging this idea and how everyone is turning out in the sketch
but I'm also realizing I need to figure out a non-rendering/full paint approach here or I will 1000% burn myself out ๐ซ

A dressform with a jacket toile, royal blue twill fabric, floral gold damask fabric, and gold braid trims draped over it. A piece of sheer gold fabric is tied around the waist. The way the fabrics are arranged is intended to vaguely resemble Oscar's blue uniform from Rose of Versailles.
After spending months hemming and hawing over fabric choices and looking at historical clothing patterns, I have a vision and the materials!!
Lady Oscar is coming soonish, maybe for Holmat?
Remember how I promised to post more art? That's still coming! I actually have put together a spreadsheet to help me figure out what I should post here from all the files.
