Analyst, writer, and decarbonization wonk. #YIMBY and #energytransition advocate. @climateactionri.org lead: #yestowind campaign. Personal account: these opinions are mine, all mine.
Maybe you should pay more attention to the Zibelman quote.
07.10.2025 17:27 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0At this point it isn't even ignorance anymore. It's just lies.
But we knew we could solve this frequency/inertia problem at least six ago (as documented in my 2019 article on the subject) - probably a lot longer.
pv-magazine-usa.com/2019/03/01/i...
Overall, solutions to integrate very high levels of #renewableenergy are showing up faster than even #energytransition advocates like me suspected.
Zibelman on this: โWhen youโre determined to say how best to go about this, as opposed to why itโs hard or why it doesnโt work, the solutions appear.โ
The issue of why we need inertia is oft-misunderstood. & I suspect we'll only need inertia until we replace our current system of frequency stabilization w/ systems based on DERMS (or something similar) managing thousands (millions?) of grid-forming inverters. /3
pv-magazine-usa.com/2019/03/01/i...
But what I find really interesting here is the idea of using a "clutch" on existing gas plants, instead of synchronous condensers, to supply the lost physical inertia when big coal and gas fired power plants retire.
What an elegant solution! Why hasn't this been thought of! /2
Some interesting stuff in this latest @canarymedia.com article. For one, it makes me chuckle to hear @jessejenkins.bsky.social say "โThereโs nothing impossible about 100% renewable supply," remembering old arguments (we agree more often than not these days). /1

Such an honor to get to talk with Alex and so many of the CEOs leading the United States' #solar manufacturing renaissance.

Hello, endless Zionist propaganda.

Members of #RhodeIsland 's congressional delegation are beginning to come around and oppose some arms sales to Israel. But they need to do a lot more. /6/end
06.10.2025 16:46 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Voters here in #Providence #RhodeIsland should remember this in next year's mayoral race: when mayor Brett Smiley wears his Israel pin, he stands with tech oligarchs & the far right in favor of ethnic cleansing, and against the majority of voters in his own party. /5

And what is so profoundly disappointing is the widespread political enabling of Israeli genocide by America's #DemocraticParty, despite the overwhelming majority of Democratic voters opposing Israel's "military action." /4

2. The nativist #MAGA movement, which would like to have its own (white, not Jewish) ethno-state here in the United States. /3

As part of the 60% of Americans (Jews + non-Jews) who oppose #Israel 's genocide in #Gaza, I find it interesting that a slightly more US Jews disapprove of Israel's "military actions in Gaza" than approve of it.
So who is behind US support for war crimes? /1

The United states does not import meaningful volumes of cells from China. So the only potential impact to the US is on wafer prices, which are in the $0.02 per watt range.
This will marginally drive up prices in Europe and ROW. For the US market this is meaningless.
Last year, CNN ran a โfact checkโ of Kamala HQ that claimed we were lying for saying Trumpโs plan is Project 2025.
Now Trump is outright admitting itโs his plan.
Legacy media failed the country.
Another day, another story about another African nation either deploying or preparing to deploy large amounts of #solar.
The boom is already starting.
I must also confess to all of the same things. Thank you @whstancil.bsky.social!

If federal agents marched down streets demanding papers โ what would we say?
Authoritarianism โ letโs not pretend itโs something else when it happens in our American cities.
Note that reporter Ben Santarris did not bother to cite the official stats here in his article.
Definitely not the first time Santarris - the former PR guy for SolarWorld - has omitted important information that would challenge his pro-protectionist story line.
Shameful. /3/end
According to Customs' UFLPA dashboard, *all* shipments of "electronics" (the category they put solar in) that were detained from Korea in June, July, and August were "denied" - either excluded from the US market or voluntarily re-exported. /2
www.cbp.gov/newsroom/sta...
QCells claims that Hanwha #solar cells from Korea detained under UFLPA have been released to its factories.
I'm highly skeptical, given that the sole source of current, official, publicly available data on UFLPA detentions tells a different story. /1 #forcedlabor

Thank you for your leadership @chrismurphyct.bsky.social.
The #DemocraticParty could use more of this.
Coal employs 40,000 workers.
#Solar employs 280,000 - seven workers for every coal industry worker.
This administration isn't pro-worker. It's pro-fossil and anti-future.

Can you supply your evidence of the assertion that hydro is not available in most parts of the world? Because it seems pretty widespread.
Also: neighboring hydro works. With enough transmission, we in New England could balance very high levels of wind and solar w/ hydro in Quebec.
Yes - Mark Jacobson celebrates countries and US states reaching high levels of renewable energy.
As we all should, because it is the path to save our civilization. I think you're drawing some extra conclusions here.
Also: Anyone can "jump into" a thread on Bluesky. It's a feature of social media.
