96. Longlegs
I found this oddly comedic, a big dose of Silence of the Lambs with more anarchic characters and a splash of Twin Peaks. A much more fun ‘horror’ film than the usual, probably because it’s not terribly horrific.
95. Eenie Meanie
Very good dark comedy, grand theft and car chase movie, with excellent relationship arcs threaded throughout. The world is fairly dirty as are the people and the action giving a better more grounded feel than most heist/robbery movies.
94. Love Lies Bleeding
Cool, weird back country gangster movie, overlaid on top of a modern love story. The cinematography is excellent, the characters are near perfect, the surrealism is an amazing choice.
93. Slingshot
Kinda dull and very talky sci-fi, a bit of a mix of tropes from fight club, solaris, 2001 and a ray bradbury short story; but not as good as any of them. If you’re taking notice of anything in the film all the of the twists are barely bends.

I have to admit I prefer the feel of the book to the film, mostly due to the movie’s slow pace, the overt weirdness of the characters, and the huge dollop of added philosophy. It is however beautiful in a decrepit style and contains some ideas on which, the book could have looked harder.
Strange New Worlds S3
A whole load of ‘homages’ to other shows this season, Indiana Jones, Dr Who, Enemy Mine and more as well as to a load of other ST series. Some of the episodes are a complete mess of bad exposition and fluff, but others are some of the best written Star Trek.
91. Arcadian
Pretty decent post apocalyptic jobbie with a simple enough storyline.
Not the best writing or acting but some of the most interesting creatures and action.

A more comedic version of the final destination movies with a real whiplash of humour and goriness.

89. Taxi ‘98
French equivalent of a 70s British comedy mixed with a load of ramped up vehicles and B-movie guff. It’s fun daft but fun.
88. Flight Risk
Decent enough for a sort of 1 room play style thriller. It does all the things you’d expect from a film set in a small plane. Chekov’s flare pistol etc. and the good guy does the usual to allow the film’s tension to play out.

Not that one.
I hadn’t seen this film properly in 35 years and had forgotten the amount of bloat in the first half. With some serious tightening up and better street races this would be something like a light comedy version of an early Fast and Furious film.
Just an array of nonsense, memberise if you want, for free or otherwise.

86. Novocaine
This is an entertaining gory mess, a ridiculous romantic action comedy. It feels a tiny bit too long due to its multiple endings, but the five or six set pieces are very good.
85. Big Easy
Comedy action thriller, quite humorous but also fairly misogynistic. Dennis Quaid’s grabbiness might have gotten his arm broken today. Ellen Barkin is type cast as horny and breathy making her character, a restrained lawyer, seem besotted and out of control.
84. Love Hurts
A not wonderful but quite enjoyable hit man out of retirement movie. It has an array of odd killers which made it feel like it was going for something but they didn’t go far enough.
83. Wedlock
An incredibly 90s Comedy/Action B-Movie where not a lot of the future prison system makes sense, and the deal made in the double cross is worse than the original deal. If you’ve seen Point Blank of Payback, the opening gambits are almost identical.
82. Liquorice Pizza
As usual with a PTA movie the dialogue and shooting style aren’t really my thing; it’s clearly a well made film with some excellent work going in to expressing the insanity of young love; but the chattering, hyperactivity and loud camera moves are really abrasive.
81. The Flash
Not as bad as I thought it’d be. The cgi in the speedforce is pretty awful but there’s a lot of it in other places that you don’t even notice how good it is without thinking about it. The story’s not amazing but it’s a superhero film, and I found it enjoyable; despite the fuckwit lead.
