I mended my brother’s flannel today. Three holes patched with the best fabric I had on hand, armpits sewn back up, a pocket repaired in two places, some small lines of stitches on seams that needed it, and a button replaced. Is it perfect? No. But now he gets to keep wearing his favorite winter layer for many more seasons.

If I could convince people of anything, it would be to learn how to mend clothes. Mending doesn’t have to be complicated. It doesn’t even have to be good. It just needs to extend the life of clothing.

Poorly mended is better than never mended!
