M1 is a supernova remnant - the remains of a star that exploded in 1054 CE. britastro.org/observations...

At Saturday's BAA meeting, Michael Woodman, a discoverer of the 1946 outburst of the recurrent nova #TCrB was presented the BAA Variable Star Section Charles Butterworth Award. Michael hopes to witness the next outburst (a unique achievement) which could be anytime soon.

This week's picture of the week is NGC 1931, the Fly Nebula, by Manolo Rodriguez from near Seville in Spain. NGC 1931 is also this month's BAA Deep Sky Section Object of Interest.

Picture of the globular cluster Messier 46
This weeks BAA Picture of the Week is the amazing starry field of the globular cluster Messier 46 (in Puppis) by Manolo Rodriguez
You can also see the planetary nebula NGC 2438 above and left of the centre. It is not believed to be part of the cluster, though.
