To film and TV producers everywhere: please stop showing quill pens with all the bloody feathers.
These were stripped off, as the weight unbalances the pen. But for theatricality's sake, every now and again, you can leave a little tab of feather near the end

This is a cartload of nonsense from very intelligent people who ought to know a lot better. The only decent point they make against the UK government's prespective recognition of Palestine is that it's wrong to use it as an explicit bargaining chip to reward or punish Israel.
Thread follows.

In case you're in doubt (thanks to the nonsense from Avi at Harvard), 3I/ATLAS is an interstellar comet passing briefly through the solar system.
But the alien nonsense did make me re-read the Crazy Eddie part of the Mote in God's Eye ... not a bad model for how aliens might visit.

There seems to be a weird, perverse inverse snobbery around maths (and much other STEM).
Sort of "only nerds/geeks do maths, and I'm just normal, not a geek."

I wouldn't transcribe it as "y" in this context. "Go" is always a hard g, whereas "ge" is a soft y.
Note: medially, it can be w e.g. dragan, to draw.

Trying to leave fine lines of wood is challenging, and some fine details I'm convinced were done with bronze inserts (pins, strips) as you can't carve islands that small ... but it was fun trying π€£
