For international audiences, will this be recorded, by chance, to watch later on?

The (Ed) Tech Industry has made citizens believe that the problem with education is reading, thinking, and writing when the problem with education is austerity.

Reading, thinking, and writing are not the problems to be solved. Austerity is.

What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?

Rare book libraries are not quiet, orderly places. They are gothic mansions crammed with shrieking ghosts, decades of quirky decisions made by eccentric people & mountainous backlogs. Itโ€™s easy to lose books and easier to lose yourself.

Photo of a letterpress print in copper ink on cream poster-size paper, with an illustration of an old C&P wheeled platen floor printing press, and the following text:
"THIS IS A PRINTING OFFICE
Like all technology: human choice, if evil or good
This place is not a place of honor but it could be a place of hope
Refuge of arts, craft, community, learning, a megaphone for justice, fearless truth slipping bit rot & digital censorship;
or playing at a whitewashed past;
to pretend away present fascism
The center of danger is here; the center of hope is here
The danger is still present, in your time, as it was in ours (the possibility, too)
From this place you may send words of justice, liberation, reparation, collective care;
or serving capital, stoking hate
A press is but its printers
Friend vou stand on ground
you make sacred or not
THIS is a PRINTING OFFICE
Remixed text (in italics) from Beatrice Warde & Sandia National Labs; & new text by Amanda Wyatt Visconti, VA Ctr for the Book"

A rockslide-generated tsunami in a Greenland fjord rang Earth for 9 days Climate change is increasingly predisposing polar regions to large landslides. Tsunamigenic landslides have occurred recently in Greenland (Kalaallit Nunaat), but none have been reported from the east...

...it concluded since the landslide was triggered by the melting glacier, and since *that* happened due to rising global temperatures...

This was a signal - and a warning - from our rapidly changing world, heard in every single part of it.

Best we listen up.

According to the US Gov't's own spending calculator, NEH accounts for 0.0% of the federal budget. Cutting these grants is not about efficiency; it's only and always about the destruction of knowledge available to everyone.

We canโ€™t look away from rural spaces by writing everyone off as racist. You donโ€™t magically become racist when you see a cow or cornfield. Racism is an American problem that resides in every corner of the country.

Come back to rural America and speak about jobs and schools and roads and hospitals.
