Yes, it is dangerous to have collections of nitrate films, without proper storage. I have seen demonstrations of how easily the film will burn. Stunning how quickly it burns. Almost like a fuse.

When Virgil is released, he calls the correct deputy Courtney to tell him to change the charge against Harvey.
At the end, he calls the other deputy Courtney to stop recording,

It’s hard to reconcile this side of Clark Gable with what he did to Loretta Young. I guess it’s true that everyone has a dark side and a light side.

They have a long history of this. In May 1963, Bob Dylan was slated to appear on the Ed Sullivan Show. He wanted to play his "Talkin' John Birch Society Blues." The network said no, fearing a defamation lawsuit. Sullivan supported Dylan. Rather than play another song, Dylan walked out.
