I got 9 hours of sleep last night (as opposed to my more typical interrupted 6) and I had a very productive day.

Strange how that works.

Yep.

We're disposable to the ruling class. Not even human, to many.

Fuck Trump, fuck Netanyahu, and fuck all the Americans in and out of government enabling and/or supporting them both.

If you're in the market for art/photography, you should take a peek at Sol's work and see if anything strikes your fancy.

I picked up some gorgeous painted color blocks.

Just showed my spouse Chances Are (1989, Cybill Shepherd, RDJ) and now we can't agree on who was prettier in the 80s: Rob Lowe or RDJ.

I love my team at work. Genuinely grateful.

I had them watch The Librarians documentary and gave them some accompanying articles: vocational awe (of course and rest in peace, Fobazi) and Kelly Jensen's Book Riot library worker mental health article.

Their discussion today on all 3 made me proud.

Our household did not vote for this man and I'm hoping all the IL folks I know don't, either.

Stratton is going to need all the help she can get to pull ahead.

I was just moving items for a one bedroom apartment from AZ to IL, so the U-Box from U-Haul was perfect.

Easy to arrange, packed myself, they picked it up on time, and delivered to my new address. Had a little mix-up with the drop-off date so I got it 3 days later than expected. Overall, worth it.

I'm afraid to wonder just how low they can go in how shitty they'll treat you, but I don't want to put those vibes out in the universe.

I'm sorry.

I'm likewise curious, even though it goes without saying that I could have quite happily gone without knowing.

Results in: cancer.

Moderately aggressive but they think we caught it early enough to have removed it/prevented spread. Regardless, they gave a ~15% chance of it returning.

Stitches out 3/3, oncology consult after that.

Hmm, where to start?

White people came to Turtle Island.

Indigenous genocide; no accountability.

Chattel slavery; no accountability.

Civil War; no accountability.

KKK, Jim Crow; no accountability.

Rise of the police and carceral state + social war; no accountability.

Hope that helps.

Not POC. Specifically, Black people. The two are not interchangeable.

It is not okay for me, a POC, to say, ever.

Cars are still incredibly dangerous and we should be doing everything in our power to reduce societal dependence on them.

Generative AI is fully unnecessary and dangerous, and we should be doing everything in our power to eliminate its use.

So perfect comparison, I guess.

Abolish ICE and do not start over/again.

Why the fuck would you open any door for anything similar to come back when they were an unnecessary invention of the post-9/11 landscape?

Abolish ICE, full stop.

Filling out my ballot as early as possible because of new USPS postmark practices.

I may just drop it off at a drop box to be extra safe.

With extra funding to provide more staff who are trained to provide said social services, I hope.

Most library workers want to be helpers. Most of us are unqualified to offer the help social services require.

It is creating a lot of mental health issues in our field.

Re: TSA Pre-Check

I have never and will never pay extra (when it's an option) to be surveilled for security theater, just as I won't walk through their machines.

You want to make me part of this system? Let's take our time about it.

a woman in a dress is sticking her tongue out in a hallway with colorful walls . Alt: Whitney Houston in the How Will I Know music video. She's moving between bright, splashy colored panels wearing a gray dress and a gray bow on her head. She claps and turns her head to the side as she sings.

Current trumpet song I'm learning: How Will I Know by the one and only Whitney.

Pure joy and vibes.

The absolute refusal to connect American history to American current events is one of the weirdest expressions of modern racism.

My library got swatted yesterday morning. A much larger profile Chicagoland library got swatted Sunday.

Is this the next sweeping area threat following the widespread bomb threats two summers ago?

Two weeks, roughly, of longer-term recovery awaits.
