Aaron Judge is showing offensive performance that we've rarely seen in baseball history. For continuing that in 2025, he's Baseball America's Major League Player of the Year. [

The Mets since June 12, when they were 21 over, best record in baseball:
38-55
The only NL teams with more losses since that day:
Rockies 64
Nationals 58
They had a worse record than the 44-48 Pirates after that date.
Unimaginable.
And that puts a lid on the 2025 Colorado Rockies.
They went 43-119, finishing with a mind-boggling -420 run differential.
With 10 HR and a .789 SLG in his last 23 games, Aaron Judge is now 11th among RF in JAWS and 4th in 7-year peak.

Minor Threat played its final show on September 23, 1983 at the Lansburgh Cultural Center in Washington.
3 years after the formation the band broke up after Brian Baker left and switched to Dag Nasty

I have been listening to the latest Pelican album constantly while writing/editing.
Highly recommended if you like driving rock instrumentals with noisy but melodic guitar. So many great sound textures on this one.

The stories behind the best seasons π
Youβre welcome. I heard them for the first time about 7 years ago. Their back catalog is strong too
I love the noisy, driving instrumental rock sound. Another favorite The Mermen
Any recs?
Wow! Thanks for the review. I was not familiar with the band, but I was hooked from the first notes.
20.09.2025 17:43 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0I agree with this reviewer.
The new Pelican album is awesome
Chris Cornell's posthumous induction to the Rock Hall this year via Soundgarden is well deserved.
17.09.2025 18:28 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The other thing that strikes me about the Temple Of The Dog project is simply how central Andy Wood was to the entire early β90s scene, even though he didn't live to see it
Soundgarden blossomed
Pearl Jam formed from the ashes of Mother Love Bone
Would? by Alice In Chains pays homage to Wood
The point is that writing Temple Of The Dog helped Cornell make the developmental leap to become one of the best rock songwriters of his era.
Soundgarden went 9x platinum in the β90s, which is astonishing for a band that had only minimal commercial potential prior to Cornell writing TOTD
Along with all my favorite Soundgarden album cuts:
Holy Water, Searching and Mind Riot from Badmotorfinger
Let Me Drown, 4th Of July and Like Suicide from Superunknown
Overfloater and Boot Camp From Down On The Upside
Maybe this was Cornell's natural maturation as a songwriter, but then again it's probably no coincidence that after TOTD he he would go on to write Soundgarden's best songs, including
Rusty Cage
Outshined
Fell On Black Days
Black Hole Sun
Pretty Noose
Blow Up The Outside World
Burden In My Hand
Chris Cornell wrote Temple Of The Dog in early 1990 as a tribute to his late friend and roommate Andy Wood
This material brought out the best in Cornell in a way that he had not yet displayed with Soundgarden
His writing became more direct, more insightful, more tuneful
But let's face it: Hunger Strike draws its power from the vocal interplay between Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder
Cornell's acrobatic vocals contrast beautifully with Vedder's deep register
Vedder's entry on verse 2 gets me every time
π΅ I don't mind stealing bread from the mouths of decadence
But first a sidetrack:
Hunger Strike is my favorite β90s rock song. I don't know that it's the *best* of the era, but it's my favorite, and it was written by Chris Cornell.
The song is simple, repetitive and powerful. Its lyrical allusions hint at the corrupting forces of money, power and greed
I have been listening to a lot of Chris Cornell's β90s work lately.
In particular, I have been listening more closely to Temple Of The Dog than I have in maybe 30 years.
A few thoughts strike me, and one of those thoughts is that I was too dense to make some of these connections earlier.

as Cal League playoffs begin, a quintet of Angels kids will have an opportunity to play in three professional championship series in the span of 13 months:
- Yokelvin Reyes
- Ubaldo Soto
- Brayan Vergara
- Marlon Quintero
- Hayden Alvarez
I saw Fugazi on their last tour in 2002. I was young then. I didn't realize that would be my last chance to see them. I would treat it with more reverence if I could go back in time and see them again.
