Prepping for the apocalypse? You may want to pack a little treat. It’s not just canned sardines and dried beans anymore.

Here's your guide to next-level disaster prepβ€”and why you may want to include a treat

I know I’m β€œtoo online” but I’m always shocked by what people haven’t heard about.

One of these people asked me last week β€œWho is Kristi Noem?” and yet they know about the Michigan tornado. How does THAT happen?

07.03.2026 18:02 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Which is what makes it more funny to me, it’s making rounds with normal people ie people who normally aren’t into random tornadoes in the Midwest πŸ˜‚

It’s interesting to me how people want it to get rid of uncertainty and eliminate problems we know are highly complex. So we’re like β€œlet the gpt do it”. It ends up magnifying the issue, but we don’t know that, which is scary. I think a lot about this. Wondering what people think they’re using.

I’ve been sent the Michigan tornado video like 10 times. Yes, it’s a tornado. In March. In Michigan. So interesting to me what gets people’s attention from the other 291 examples. Do you think we’ve been talking about climate change, catastrophic unprecedented weird weather for the giggles?

Like anything, it’s a tool and a resource. The issue is people get so caught up they start to believe the tool is the solution, process and replaces all the problems and questions. Then we think it’s the answer to everything, and we lose being grounded in reality. See: well, everything.

Kristi Noem all but killed FEMA. Will her departure save it? Embattled Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem froze FEMA spending and slashed staff. It may well have been illegal.

β€œThere’s still good people at FEMA, but I just don’t know if there are enough of them” (Craig Fugate)

β€œImagine a room awash in gasoline, and there are two implacable enemies in that room. One of them has nine thousand matches. The other has seven thousand matches. Each of them is concerned about who's ahead, who's stronger. Well that's the kind of situation we are actually in.”

We use AI for β€œsolutions” where you actually we should want expertise, and humanity. Especially when the outcomes could be catastrophic if wrong, we should want humans involved. The entire paradigm centers technology as the prime directive. It’s just a tool, not the problem or solution, that’s us.

The interesting thing about AI is how committed executives are to using it after it measurably fails catastrophically at its goals. Like there seems to be no limit to how badly it can fuck up and still be heralded as the future of technology

A bill was proposed a month ago, to fund the other agencies, ie the 80% of DHS that isn’t ICE or CBP. They won’t bring it to the floor for a vote. Anyone know why? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Instead we’re coming up on 3 weeks of furlough w/ no pay and a 10 day recess. I can’t emphasize enough how bad this is.

The #Senate stands adjourned until 10:00 a.m. on Thursday March 5th 2026.

At 1:45 p.m. the Senate will proceed to vote on reconsideration of cloture on the motion to proceed to the DHS appropriations bill.

It’s hard not to. There are some situations where what’s not in the news (yet) is worse than we think. And others where partial truth is filled in with outrage as we leap to conclusions. I think 90% of this can be attributed to no one reading past headlines.

I have a great Lou Holtz story from meeting him on a plane, he took the time to hand write a letter for my father in law, on Notre Dame letterhead. My extended family and friends are huge fans and alum of ND. Rest in peace, Coach.

Noem’s spending limits have frozen millions in disaster aid, Democratic report charges The report says more than 1,000 FEMA contracts, grants or disaster aid awards have been delayed or remain pending, including for victims of July’s deadly flooding in Texas and Hurricane Helene in 2024...

A whistleblower report proves Noem and DHS lied and continues to lie about her ridiculous requirement to sign off on funding greater than 100k.
This harms the people experiencing one of the hardest periods of their life. It needs to end.
