In much the same way as people who are visibly uncomfortable sincerely supporting Palestinian sovereignty and independence prefer to characterise Israel’s settlements and genocide as an unfortunate spat, and limit their critiques to some version of “both sides need to cut it out and hug”.

I don’t think Catherine Connolly has admiration for Putin, it’s just that she thinks of the war in Ukraine as a pointless scuffle between Russia and NATO with mostly equal blame on all sides.
